In today’s fast-paced world, where it is increasingly challenging to stay focused on any one task, clear progression in one’s language learning journey can sometimes feel unachievable. How do we help our students feel they are getting the support they need in order to progress to the next step? In this talk, we will discuss the benefits of differentiation in the language classroom where graded versions of text and audio material can give students the challenge and the support they need both within and outside of their classroom environment. We will focus on how providing targeted scaffolding in mixed ability classrooms can help set clearer individual language goals and make the material more relevant and meaningful to all students, using examples from HELBLING’s new coursebook for teenagers: American OPTIONS.
